Vivekananda Mela, Tribal Conference, Children’s Rally and Naranarayan Seva by Ramakrishna Mission Narendrapur

INAUGURATION  on 11th February, 2014 :   Inaugurated by Swami Balabhadranandaji along with Mr. R K Pachauri, Chairman, IPCC which received Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, Mr. Bikash Sinha, Padma Bhusan, member of Prime Minister’s Scientific Council and former Director, Variable Energy Cyclotrone Centre, Kolkata and Saha Institute of Nuclear Science. The Inaugural function started with Tribal Dance by groups from Purulia and Medinipur, and then inauguration of the Vidyalaya annual Educational Exhibition followed by traditional folk art through  Children Rally in which 3232 children from 5 Districts of West Bengal performed Bratachari for more than 2 hours.  This was followed by Drama by College Students at VIVEKA MANCHA, the main stage.

12th February, 2014 :   Mr. Sadhan Pandey, Minister of Consumers Right and Public Service gave away prizes for District Level Inter School Quiz competition and inaugurated the Exhibition on Tribal and folk Culture jointly organized by Narendrapur and the Department of Information and culture, Govt. Of West Bengal followed by cultural performances by Primary School Children of Narendrapur and the Gadadhar Abhyuday Prakalpa.

 13th and 14th February, 2014:  Cultural  and Dance  programmes performed by 25 Tribal groups with all together 512 tribal people including the Chhou Dance by the group which received President’s Award in 2012. Apart from these Tribal programmes the students of Blind Boys’ Academy performed Drama and the Agricultural Training Centre organized an National Level Seminar on application of Agro Bio Technology for the tribal sectors of the country with scientists from all over the country.  More than 40000 people witnessed the  Tribal programmes on these two days.

A special Tribal Convention was organized through a day-long Seminar on Prevention and Protection of Tribal and Folk Culture inaugurated by Swami Vishwatmanandaji maharaj and attended by 172 tribal people who joined the performing group in the evening on the stage.

15th February, 2014 :  Annual Prize Distribution of the Vidyalaya was held at noon while the Vidyalay students performed Drama in the evening.

VIVEKANANDA MELA :  During these 5 days a huge Mela was organized in front of the College in which 315 stalls were set up with 121 purely commercial stalls and other included Govt. Sponsored stalls and the Annual Exhibition stalls of various units of Narendrapur Ashrama e.g. the Vidyalay, College, Blind Boys’ Academy, Agriculture Training Centre, Lokshiksha Parishad, Industrial Training Center, IRDM faculty of Vivekananda University, Krishi Vijnana Kendra, Shishu Vidyavithi the Primary School, Gadadhar Abhyuday Prakalpa, Rambagan Slum Vivekananda Social Welfare Centre, Narendrapur Mushroom Research Centre,  Ayurvedic Hospital and Medicinal Plant project.  The other organizations who participated, the following names need mention :

 16th February, 2014 : NARANARAYAN SEVA

 Though the arrangement was for about 20000 people to get prasadam ( Khichuri, Aloor dam, chatney, bonde), due to rains the number reduced to  12000. The morning rally was shortened due to rains and Sri Partha Chatterjee, Minister, Govt. Of West Bengal addressed the gathering at the Vivekananda Centenary Hall. The PWD Minister also joined later and visited the Mela. Local artists performed folk and other cultural programmes on the stage during the distribution of Prasadam
