The Vedanta Society in Seattle celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at the Society’s retreat, Tapovan. It began with the unveiling of a 10 foot 7 1/2 inch statue sculpted by Swami Vishwamayananda. Wreaths were offered by Pravrajikas Preetipnrana and Kantiprana of the Vedanta Society in San Francisco. The guest of honor, Swami Paritustananda of the Vedanta Society of New York, released the newly published Spanish translation of Swami Bhaskarananda’s Meditation, Mind and Patanjali’s Yoga, and gave a talk on Swami Vivekananda’s Concept of Renunciation and Service. Musical offerings included devotional songs by various singers, a violin recital of North Indian classical music by Sisirkana Dhar Chaudhury, and a presentation of Vedanta in Song by Swami Atmavidyananda of the Hollywood Vedanta Society. Lunch was served and custom bookmarks were distributed to all attendees.The celebration ended with Aratrikam in the evening. Over 300 people attended.
