Following the route trodden by Swami Vivekananda in North East India during 1901, a Rath (Vehicle decorated as a horse-driven Chariot of Swami Vivekananda) was organized by Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong, which started from Dhubri – the place where Swamiji had alighted from river route and ended at shilling, -where the great swami had delivered the last public lecture of his life.
The Vivek-Rath passed through several cities and towns of Assam re-enacting the journey of Swami Vivekananda 112 years ago. It passed through Dhubri, Bilasipara, Goalpara, Dudhnai, Krishnai, Guwahati, Jorabat, Nongpoh, Umsning before reaching Shillong. At each of these places the Rath witnessed a grand reception and there was fervor of celebration in the entire city/town. Speeches by distinguished personalities, huge processions, and cultural shows marked the festivities.
